It is official! Mick Fanning is the best surfer in the world. So far this year. Mick Fanning is number one on the ASP World Tour. Bede Durbidge is coming number two, Kelly Slater is number three and Taj Burrow is Number four.

Mick Fanning creamed them all in the Qulicksilver Pro just finished at Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast. The waves were four foot fully sick barrels for the finals and the footage shows all the finalists getting barrel after barrel. Mick Fanning used his local knowledge to pick and shred the best waves. His takeoffs and stalls in the tube were legendary Coolangatta manouveurs. My hope is that Mick Fanning goes on to conquer the world tour and become world champion this year.

In the Women’s Chelsea Hodges is coming first, with Silvana Lima in second spot , Rebecca Woods in third place and four women surfers in equal fourth.

The next stop on the world tour is the Bell’s Beach Easter contest. I am hoping that Mick will be holding the bell aloft on Easter Monday. I cannot get any results for surfest. Their site is down and there are no results on the news feeds. I will have to go to the coffee shop and buy the paper then report back this afternoon.
