Huge blue skies and plenty of sunshine!

We have had a week of blue skies and plenty of sunshine, however the Bureau is forecasting more snow for the weekend. Very chilly nights, with temperatures as low as -15 degrees Celsius, has allowed for lots of snowmaking in Perisher Blue and has kept the natural cover in good shape. On average, more than 80 groomed runs are now being prepared each morning for your riding pleasure, so now is the time to make a visit. Chilly nights have allowed for lots of snowmaking.

Special! @ The Station Resort

Have fun in the snow for only $115 per room, per night (conditions apply). Rooms sleep up to 6 people, which makes it $20 per person per night. What a bargain! It’s the ultimate family fun vacation; visit Perisher Blue’s Spring Carnival in September, learn to ski, snowboard or simply play in Tube Town. Have a holiday you will never forget!

First Tracks 2008 Debut!

Beautiful First Tracks morning at Perisher Blue. First Tracks made its season debut this week! It’s a truly special Perisher Blue experience, allowing a limited number of guests access to a selected area in the resort before anyone else. First Tracks sessions will be conducted every Tuesday and Thursday morning for the reminder of July, August and September (conditions apply). Next week plan to be the first to carve lines down the runs in the Eyre T-bar area! To find out more for bookings call Guest Services on 1300 655 822.

5 Good reasons to get out of the city and head to the snow!

If you live in a city and you’re sick of the smog, tired of the hustle and bustle or feeling overworked, now is the perfect time to get out of town and head to the snow! Don’t miss your chance to breathe in the crisp, fresh mountain air and enjoy all that the Australian alpine areas have to offer. Whether you want to play hard or just chill-out, there is plenty to do both on and off the slopes this winter. Need a breather? There are plenty of places to stop and refuel around the mountain.

Join the Perisher Historical Society!

This organisation has been set up to capture the rich historical tapestry of the Perisher Range. It was launched at a dinner at Snow Gums Restaurant in the Perisher Valley Hotel on Saturday over the June Long Weekend. It was a great success with 103 guests in attendance, many from the early days of the development of the Perisher Range. The Society will be publishing regular newsletters with progress and happenings, and are keen to receive your stories from the early tmes right up to the present.

Blackbeards castle stands at the top of the hill overlooking St Thomas. In the 1700’s Blackbeards Point was the highest point of the island. Around the harbour, St Thomas has many famous beaches. Nagin’s Bay is a beautiful beach more than a kilometer long.

Lord Howe Island is part of Australia and has two significant peaks and the island is pretty chilled out. There are limited numbers of people allowed on Lord Howe Island at one time. Go snorkelling on the reefs for a great view of the ocean.

Evergreen Tours have tours to Canada and you get a free stopover in San Francisco or Honolulu.

A tiny island in Fiji with a big reputation is Beachcomber Island. It is a party island where at daytime the party goers just love to sun bake or go jet skiing or water skiing. There are buffet style meals and accommodation to suit any budget. There are private bures or cheap dormitory accommodation for the backpackers. Have a cocktail to start the night and dance on the tables all night. Everybody has lots of fun and is a thirty minute ride from the main island of Nadi. Pacific Blue has flights from Brisbane or Sydney for a few hundred dollars.

Jervis Bay has perfect beaches and crystal clear water. Get on a cruiser and enjoy the best that Jervis Bay can offer. Hop on board at Huskisson and sail on out to the bay in the afternoon. There is every chance you will get to meet the local bottlenose dolphins. They eat squid and star fish mainly and there is food in abundance for the dolphins. The white sandy beaches are fantastic and clear. You can swim in perfect clear water and snorkel as well as explore on a deserted beach. At dinner get into a sausage sizzle and feed your face with a classic australian sausage sandwich. Settle back in a deck chair and enjoy the sunset.

Tonga is more than a hundred islands and you could start with sight seeing on a quad bike. A cart safari will take you on a secret tour to the out of the way places to see things like fruit bats who fly with their young attached. It is a good area for whale watching. The coastline towers above the sea and you can sit on the top of a cliff just watching the waves break on the cliffs.

A day in the life of a Snowmaker!

The recent snowfalls have certainly placed a beautiful white blanket across Perisher Blue, putting smiles on everyone’s faces. This hasn’t meant that our snowmakers can now take it easy. The old adage “make hay while the sun shines” (or make snow when the conditions are right) applies. In the months of June and July in particular, snowmaking either assists in enabling the Resort to open or enhances the natural snowfall. Snowmaker’s work around the clock to ensure the maximum amount of snow possible settles on the ground. Read more about Perisher Blue’s snowmakers.
